From raw ideas to refined solutions.

mind mill

Mind Mill builds on creativity in the Baltic Sea region, with the aim of transforming the region into the most creative place for business on the continent. The project envisions bringing creative young people together and helping them jumpstart their careers and at the same time connecting them with businesses and organisations, that have yet to realise how valuabe creativity can be. This will be achieved by creating a space, where young creative people can come together and work on the issues that are affecting the Baltic Sea Region.

Video Inspiration

A part from working on what we want our video to say, writing a script and storyboarding the key details of our project, we wanted to look at videos that had a simple illustrative style to inspire our own film. Here are some of the ones we like.

As a way to share our idea as succinctly as possible in a short period of time, as well as showcase some of the creative talent that exists in the Baltic region, we are working with a fantastic Lithuanian-based digital agency to produce a short video for our presentation. Here is a sample reel of some of their video work.

Our Idea (has evolved)

Over the weekend in Nida, Lithuania we had several great meetings with visiting guests who helped us better identify the problem we wanted to address and how to better shape our idea. It has evolved from an invite only workshop for open-ended exploration to a select team of young creatives working together in a studio for a set period of time on a specific project.

Our idea is to see the Baltic Sea Region become the most creative place for business on the continent. We will address the objectives of the European Union Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region (EUSBSR) with innovative solutions developed by teams of young creative professionals. These solutions will be developed in a studio environment by a multidisciplinary team of Pan Baltic creatives during intensive quarterly project sessions.

The studio will improve business cooperation in the region and provide the young creative participants with more business confidence to accelerate their careers.  The studio’s projects will support EUSBSR Flagship projects, regional businesses and build a network of the region’s creative talent in the process.

Design Market

I’ve always appreciated the concept behing DesignTorget in Sweden. It’s a storefront that sells Scandinavian design. The collection is curated and designers submit their work to be sold there. There is a jury that selects the artwork and they have a collaboration with several art & design schools in the region.

In 1993 he was asked to confront a large and “hopeless” surface in the Culture House’s ground floor. It was slump, with many designers and inventors unemployed, and Jerry started thinking about creating a marketplace for designers and their products. Thus was born the Design Market, and at first the designers delivered their products directly on pallets, which were set up in the premises.

During the years that have passed have Designtorget grown to 17 stores in Sweden and Norway and webshop and has become a familiar concept for those who are interested in design, interior design or just a fun gift.

The company still meets a jury every week and pick out the products that will be sold in stores. This approach and collaboration with Konstfack, Beckmans, HDK and other design schools is unique within the Swedish retail, and has contributed to Design square’s strong brand name and successes.
